Since 2012, the Business & Computer Technologies Division has awarded the Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism Management Associate Degree for Central Georgia Technical College Titans to learn hospitality industry fundamentals. Chaired by Prof. Wendy Wells-O’Rear, the 60-credit, two-year curriculum integrates Macon or online BlendFlex courses like Event Planning and Travel Geography before the HRTM 1220 internship. The Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism Management Diploma follows a 44-credit, 18-month sequence under Prof. Michele Boone at a 23:1 student-teacher ratio to build basic occupational skills quicker. The Hospitality Operations Technical Certificate also offers a 12-credit, one-term plan advised by Prof. Courtney Dickey with Macon, Milledgeville, Putnam, or Warner Robins courses like Marketing.
About Central Georgia Technical College
Central Georgia Technical College originated in 1962 when the Georgia General Assembly approved legislation creating the Macon Area Vocational-Technical School. In 1966, its first classes were delivered at a career center off Highway 63. In 1973, Middle Georgia Technical College was founded in Warner Robins. In 1990, the newly named Macon Technical Institute built its first extension for Baldwin County in Milledgeville. On July 6, 2000, the Education Reform Act was passed to expand the region’s service area to 11 counties. In Fall 2012, the two independent institutions were united into Central Georgia Technical College. On July 1, 2013, CGTC received its initial accreditation for associate degrees. In 2016, CGTC was allocated $17 million to build its state-of-the-art Roy H. Watson Building. The next year, the Sam Way Sr. Workforce Development Center was inaugurated in Hawkinsville.
Budgeting $70.76 million yearly, Central Georgia Technical College now employs 484 faculty teaching 11,514 Titans online or face-to-face at 11 campuses in 20+ clubs like Phi Beta Lambda. In 2012, CGTC received the Achieving the Dream Institution Award. In 2019, the Technical College System of Georgia gave its Student of the Year Award to a CGTC sophomore. Central Georgia Technical College’s SkillsUSA Chapter won the 2018 Gold Medal too. Military Times ranked CGTC the 23rd best community college for active-duty and veteran students. On Niche, CGTC was placed Georgia’s second best technical school with a “B-” grade. WalletHub named Central Georgia Technical College 64th for educational outcomes and 349th for financial aid nationally. OnlineColleges.com crowned CGTC the 10th most affordable two-year institution. The Times Free Press noticed CGTC for the state’s lowest average living costs. Community College Week magazine also declared CGTC America’s ninth fastest growing.
Central Georgia Technical College Accreditation Details
On July 6, 2016, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) mailed an official notification letter to Central Georgia Technical College that extended the Level I accreditation status through 2025-26 under President Ivan H. Allen, EdD. Located 88 miles up Interstate 475 in Decatur, this esteemed 11-state Southeast Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to evaluate CGTC’s 42 associate degrees, 48 diplomas, and 121 technical certificates. Its lower-division curriculum is properly approved by the Georgia Department of Education. Please note Central Georgia Technical College isn’t accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) though.
Central Georgia Technical College Application Requirements
Getting into Central Georgia Technical College is labeled “least selective” by the U.S. News & World Report because 100 percent of the 2,460 Fall 2013 entrants had open admission. First-year Titans seeking the Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism Management Associate Degree still must graduate from an accredited high school or pass the GED test though. Freshmen must be at least 16 years old before enrollment. Specific GPAs aren’t listed, but a 2.0 or better is suggested to avoid probation. Dual enrollment students need a minimum 67 percent pass rate. Associate-level entrants need to exceed Accuplacer scores of 64 Reading Comprehension, 70 Sentence Skills, 34 Arithmetic, and 57 Algebra. Equivalent Compass marks would be 79 Reading, 62 Writing, and 37 Algebra. Placement testing is wholly optional with ACT composite scores above 17. Undergrads with minimum SAT marks of 450 Reading and 440 Math also qualify. Foreign learners must prove English proficiency with at least 500 TOEFL scores.
Central Georgia Technical College conveniently keeps the admission process rolling year-round. Note the financial aid deadlines are July 1st for Fall, December 2nd for Spring, and April 15th for Summer starts. Class registration for new students begins April 2nd, November 13th, and April 1st respectively. Prospective Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism Management majors should complete the CGTC Application online with $25 by credit card or money order. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Central Georgia Technical College charged in-state undergrads $89 per credit or $1,335 each term full-time. Non-resident Hotel/Restaurant/Tourism Management majors paid $178 per credit or $2,670 by semester. International students spent $356 per credit or $5,340 for 15 credits. Associate programs incurred the $105 technology fee, $55 institutional fee, $60 registration, and $40 activities fee each term. Exemption exams cost $50 apiece. CGTC budgeted $2,184 yearly for off-campus living arrangements. Textbooks and supplies added an estimated $1,600. Miscellaneous annual expenses average $3,830. Full-time associate attendance equals $10,392 in-state and $12,528 out-of-state.
According to the NCES College Navigator, the Financial Aid Office in Warner Robins Building A connects 77 percent of full-time CGTC Titans to tuition assistance averaging $4,538 apiece for $27.11 million combined. Institutional funds include the Albert Jackson Dupree Scholarship, Brian Schmidt Memorial Scholarship, Flint Energies Scholarship, General Alfred Hansen Scholarship, Gloria Ragland Memorial Scholarship, Hope for Change Scholarship, Logan Walton Memorial Scholarship, Michael Moye Scholarship, Patricia Fouts Memorial Scholarship, RD Buchan Trust Scholarship, and Way Brothers Scholarship. The Textbook Scholarship gifts $300 per semester to assist with Warner Robins, Macon, or Milledgeville bookstore costs. The Technical College System of Georgia offers the $1,000 Phoenix Patriot Foundation’s Veteran Scholarship and $750 TCSG Employee Scholarship. Federal aid resources, such as the Pell Grant and SEOG Grant, open with FAFSA applications coded 005763. Georgians also pursue the Hope Career Grant, Zell Miller Grant, Dual Enrollment Grant, Student Access Loan, and SKAL Atlanta Tourism & Hotel Management Scholarship.
