The School of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts at Monroe College offers hospitality management programs at the associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree levels. The school is committed to offering programs that comprise professionalism, pride, and passion. All three hospitality management programs may be completed either on campus or online.
The Associate of Applied Science in Hospitality Management provides instruction on various concepts of the hospitality industry, such as rooms division, food and beverage, and travel and tourism. All concepts incorporate the importance of strong communication abilities. To complete the degree, students must complete a total of 60 credit hours. The courses required for the program include principles of accounting, introduction to hospitality, rooms division management, restaurant operations, beverage management, travel and tourism, customer service for hospitality and culinary managers, dining room management, and cooperative education seminar.
The Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management provides students with the needed comprehensive knowledge and abilities for management jobs in the hospitality field. Students have the ability to specialize in tourism and destination management or culinary management. A total of 120 credit hours are required for completion of the degree. Examples of the courses in the program include introduction to hospitality, restaurant operations, beverage management, travel and tourism, customer service for hospitality and culinary managers, dining room management, hospitality law, managerial accounting for hospitality, sales and marketing for hotels and restaurants, principles of management, human resource management, employee and labor relations, and cooperative education seminar.
The Master of Science in Hospitality Management is an accelerated one-year degree that prepares students for leadership careers in various hospitality areas, such as hotels and resorts, tourism boards, real estate, and convention services. The completion of 36 credit hours is necessary to earn the degree. The courses in the program include economics of tourism, hospitality management information systems, qualitative research applications for hospitality, tourism marketing and branding, hospitality human resource management, contemporary programs and issues in hospitality, global tourism in emerging markets, strategic management and leadership in hospitality, managing information technology across the enterprise, and research and statistics for managerial decision making. The program also features two-week residencies at the start and conclusion of the program to enable students to establish relationships and experience real-world situations.
About Monroe College
Residing in Bronx, New York, Monroe College is a private postsecondary institution. It was established in 1933 for the purpose of providing education to help both men and women succeed. In honor of President James Monroe, the school started out as Monroe School of Business. The institution became an accredited junior college in 1972 and it changed campus locations in 1977. The college was renamed Monroe College in 1990 after it received Middle States Commission on Higher Education accreditation. In 1998, Monroe began offering distance education courses to students. Today, over 6,600 undergraduate and graduate students call Monroe College home. The college operates on the semester academic calendar.

Federal Work Study
The Federal Work-Study program is federally funded and helps students pay for their college education by providing part-time jobs to those who demonstrate a financial need. Students are able to work both on and off campus in a variety of positions, including those that will provide the experience for future careers. While classes are in session, students have the ability to work up to 20 hours a week. The pay is at least the current minimum wage but varies by employer and position.
