Studying Hospitality at SUNY Sullivan

Sullivan Community College, which is also known as SUNY Sullivan, offers an Associate in Applied Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management. With full-time enrollment, students can complete the program in two years by taking 15 to 18 credits each semester. After earning an AAS degree from SUNY Sullivan, students may transfer to four-year colleges throughout New York State.
Overall, students must earn between 62 and 64 credits to earn their degree. At the conclusion of study, students will have a working knowledge of the hospitality and tourism industry, as well as be able to utilize communication skills for work in hospitality and tourism reports, documents, and presentations. Students will also learn problem-solving skills and be able to apply standard business concepts.
The program has been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, and graduates may find work in environments like hotels, casinos, country clubs, and various tourism organizations. Students will take a variety of classes in business, as well as classes devoted specifically to hospitality and tourism.

In addition, the program allows students to take several electives with the choice of several communications classes like Interpersonal Communications, Intro to Media Communications, and Intercultural Communication. Additional topics students will study include accounting with Fundamentals of Accounting and economics with students choosing Microeconomics or Macroeconomics during their second year of study.
Students who would like to continue into a four-year program at a university in New York State may benefit from earning their AAS degree at SUNY Sullivan, but the program will also prepare students for immediate work in the corporate world. The program administrators for the Associate in Applied Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management have arranged courses so that students can earn their degree within 30 weeks, but the college also offers students the option to enroll in part-time study for more time spent earning the degree.
About SUNY Sullivan
Sullivan Community College is part of the State University of New York System and is located in Sheldrake, New York. The school was established in 1962 in South Fallsburg and eventually moved to a site in Loch Sheldrake on a campus of 405 acres. The school’s official colors are green and gold, and students who participate in sports teams are known as The Generals. The college is part of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
The college has a strong dedication to sustainability with geothermal heating, and air conditioning used on the campus, as well as an organic farm, tended through a partnership with a local organization. The college also has a solar field covering nine acres, a large composting program, and a series of community gardens.

SUNY Sullivan Application Requirements
The application process for Sullivan Community College includes submitting an application, high school transcripts, and a $50 application fee. There are some additional admissions requirements for certain programs, as well as two different types of applications. One application is for students who are less than 23-years-old, and the other application is for students who are 23 or older.
Transcripts should come from a regionally accredited high school or be in the form of a GED or equivalent program certified by the superintendent of schools. Tuition and Financial Aid
Students who are residents of New York State will pay a base tuition rate of $209, as well as a variety of small fees for a total of $246 per credit. Students who enroll in six credits will pay $1,254 and a total of $1,476 when other fees are included. A full-time course load of 12 credits will cost $2,508 and $2,955 when all fees are included. Added fees include a tech fee that starts at $13 and a learning support fee that starts at $4.
Other fees students may pay include an activity fee that starts at $13 and a health service fee that starts at $4. Students who enroll in online classes will pay an additional $15 per credit for an online course fee. Parking and transportation fees add an additional $7.50 per semester. Students who arrange to live in a residence hall will pay between $3,386 and $4,004 for a space in a room, as well as $1,860 for a meal plan.

All applicants must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before receiving federal, state, or institutional aid. New York State residents may be eligible for the official tuition assistance program, as well as the Excelsior Scholarship Program.
